Estate Planning

What legacy do you want to leave for your family and other loved ones?  What are your wishes for end-of-life planning?  How is your home titled, and does this matter when you pass away?

Life is full of questions, and we can assist with making sure your wishes as to your property and care are honored now and at the time of your death.  Writing the next chapter of your life can be done with skill and ease, so as to avoid the issues of intestacy that plague so many families – and the difficult conversations that accompany these decisions.

We are dedicated to helping clients choose what happens with their assets and their personal care before and when they pass, so that their loved ones do not end up fighting over money or personal property, thereby dividing a family unnecessarily. Planning for the future is a true gift to those you love, so that their grief does not also come with legal proceedings about your assets. Our team can assist you with making sure that your wishes are properly conveyed and honored.

Core Estate Planning Services Offered at Davis Blase & Holder

A simple will might be all you need to assure that you have provided the secure future your loved-ones deserve. However, this isn’t always a guarantee that you will avoid a costly probate. Call us today for a comprehensive asset evaluation to determine if you need more than a will to gain peace of mind.

If you own real estate with equity exceeding $100,000, or non-retirement investments exceeding $75,000, a revocable living trust is the right fit for you. Unlike a will, a trust takes effect immediately after creation and can be used to distribute property before, at, or after the trustee’s death – leaving you in complete control. A trust can be either revocable or non-revocable and covers only property that is transferred into the trust.

A durable POA is an essential tool in every estate plan. This “springing” document will assure that the person you trust will be responsible for your assets and liabilities, should you become incapacitated or unable to care for yourself. We can create a specific Power of Attorney that meets your needs, when you need it, and planning for same before you need it.

Sometimes called Living Wills, Advanced Directives provide medical practitioners with a roadmap of your wishes when you are unable to clearly voice them. This is also an opportunity to articulate your wishes and desires regarding your end-of-life care. It is important to have this established in the event you are unable to express consent. Do not leave your loved ones to guess or debate about the details of your wishes, when they should be dealing with their own grief.
